Annabel Lee 04:44
She was a child- I was a child In that kingdom by the sea How cruelly then she was taken from me My beautiful Annabel Lee When death came in to steal her from me I tried to put up a fight I was no match for that figure cloaked in black And I lost my bride to the night She was singing at her piano Such a beautiful sight to me But blood has now consumed our lives It is dripping from the keys Let me have under her own hand A letter bidding me goodbye I may die, my heart will break But I will say no more

The wind blows cold to my true love And gently drops the rain I only had but one true love In the Greenwood she lies slain I'll do as much for my true love As any young man may I'll sit and mourn along her grave For a twelve-month and a day When the twelve months and one day was past The ghost began to speak: "Why do you sit along my grave And will not let me sleep?" There's just one thing I want, my love Just one thing that I crave One last kiss from your lily white lips Then I'll go from your grave… "My lips they are as cold as clay My breath smells earthy strong And if you kiss my cold clay lips Your days will not be long" Go fetch me water from the desert And blood from out of stone Go fetch me milk from a fair maid's breast a young man’s never known.” 'Twas down in Cupid's Garden Where you and I would walk The finest flower that ever I saw Is withered to a stalk The stalk is withered and dry, my love, The flower won’t return And since I lost my one true love What can I do but mourn? "When shall we meet again, my love? When shall we meet again?" Where oaken leaves that fall from trees Are green and spring again. "When shall we meet again, my love? When shall we meet again?" Where oaken leaves that fall from trees Are green and spring again.

In Shadow 05:18
Usher in the darkness, the light untimely stays Lingering long shadows from the sunset’s final blaze… In shadow I am hidden, cloaked in dusk and shade, Protected from the sight of those who live within the day For all this time we’ve waited, to walk in our own skins The eve of the All Hallows, and at nightfall it begins… So follow swift on darkened streets, and join the masquerade And tread the path of dark and dread, our Witches’ Night parade In shadow we march Demand our tithe from every door In shadow we ride On street and byway field and moor In shadow… Remember this in years to come, when shadows chance to meet, In every half-heard echo behind you on the street, You followed swift on darkened streets, and joined in our charade And treaded paths of dark and dread, the Witches’ Night parade In shadow we march Demand our tithe from every door In shadow we ride On street and byway field and moor In shadow…

about

This is dedicated to Sammy Terry and to little me of decades past. Halloween has long been my favorite holiday and this year I wanted to put out something a little dark, a joyous celebration of the season from one small, dark perspective. I cannon imagine better co-conspirators for this project than Sarah and Braxton of Valentine Wolfe. They are incredible in every way--incredible musicians, incredible friends, incredible people, and I love them unreservedly.

A special thank you to my Patron patrons who all keep the music being made every week, especially Robin Abess, Greg Bell, Randy Brown, Randy Davis, Paul G, Jon Haight, Les Howard and Tabitha Aberts, Brian Jackey, Jeremy Jackson and Jennifer Lewis, Michael Khandelwal, Josh Logan, Stephany McNulty, Scot Mealy, Amy Stuart, Scott & Melanie Wienhusen, and John R Woollard.
