I first started working on this tune back in August of 2013 with an eye toward including it on the Dangerous Gifts album, but it’ got scrapped. In December of 2019, when the Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer as released (a movie that still has seven months before it is actually released, mind you,) I was reinvigorated to at least finish the song for my Patreon patrons.
I have friends who have said that Ghostbusters was their Star Wars. While that is not the case for me, having lived through the hype and glory of all 3 Star Wars in the theaters before Ghostbusters existed, I truly loved the movie. My favorite shirt was a Ghostbusters shirt, I bought the West End Games role-playing game, and generally just loved the film.
Winston Zeddemore is the everyman in that film. Not a soulless scientist like Egon, not a quirky paranormal enthusiast and researcher like Ray, not a sex-driven attention hound like Peter. He’s the grounded, stable character. The reliable one. He very well might be my favorite character in the movie, and he certainly has many of the best lines.
When I posted the demo to this song, I genuinely never thought the song would see the light of day on an album, but it turns out that I just love it too much.
